CACI Research Reports

 

CACI were commissioned in the autumn of 2010 to provide an independent review of the retail offer within Bideford and compare it against the type of people living within the catchment area and type of tourist visiting the town.

 

The reports provide an analysis of how the retail offer matches up against its potential customers, highlighting opportunities and making recommendations for improving the vibrancy and sustainability of the town centre. Consideration also gives consideration to the relationships and connectivity between Bideford, Appledore, Westward Ho! and Atlantic Village.

 

In addition the report summarises visitor and resident impressions of the town, highlighting common themes and key areas requiring intervention.

 

The collection of evidence has been through face-to-face and postal questionnaires. Advanced modelling techniques have been adopted to review the demographic makeup of the population within Bideford's retail catchment area and visitor point of origin. The dominant demographic profiles have been analysed in detail to determine typical likes and dislikes, shopping habits and spending power.

 

The information contained within the economic research will be used as an evidence base to create a new Town Centre Action plan that will give a clear strategic direction for the future of Bideford town centre. The action plan will ensure that the long term strategy for Bideford is achievable and work to its inherent strengths including; heritage, architecture, a high quality environment and range of good quality independent stores.
